As the father of two spirited sons Minister McLaughlin is no stranger to the challenges facing young people in today’s Cayman. He is committed to reforming the education system, and passionate about providing our youth with every possible opportunity to fulfill their potential and thrive in an increasingly demanding world, at an international level.
To this end Minister McLaughlin started his term in office by hosting a National Education Conference on an unprecedented scale. All stakeholders in Cayman’s education system contributed to what became a national consensus on the way forward for reform, which placed the student at the centre of every aspect of the education process.
Minister McLaughlin has pioneered an open and inclusive approach to reform, which seeks to recognize and directly tackle challenges facing the community. His approach has proved to be a potent formula for bringing about effective changes which address the needs of all of society’s stakeholders.
During his term, Minister McLaughlin has led major advancements in the adopted strategies for the transformation of education in Cayman, notably major advancements towards a new curriculum, significant human resources management reform, the development of state-of-the-art facilities and a new governance model for the entire system. He is also making great strides in the development of policies on employment and sports, having recently hosted a first-of-its-kind national sports symposium, once again engaging the entire community in the process of bringing about reform in an area of critical value to society.
