After three remarkable decades as civil servant to the Cayman Islands Government, Mrs. L. Angela Martins MBE, JP, is a familiar and welcome face among the islands’ corridors of power. Her impressive service-term has given her a more intimate knowledge than most of the anatomy of government and it has earned her an enviable reputation for getting results.

Mrs. Martins regularly represents the Cayman Islands, known for being the world’s fifth largest financial centre, on the international stage. She is a recognized authority on a great many issues facing today’s society, as well as being a committed idealist in the development of that most valuable of any nation’s resources, its people. Her representation of the Honourable Minister of Education, Training, Employment, Youth, Sports & Culture on various UWI boards is one example which bears testimony to this.

Wearing the newest of her considerable collection of hats, that of the Ministry’s Chief Officer, Mrs. Martins now spearheads the government’s ambitious plans to reform education in the Cayman Islands.  A believer in innovation, she has defined and implemented strategies, which have challenged conventions in order to deliver results.

Among her achievements, Mrs. Martins has bought fresh ideas about the future of education to Cayman through partnership with the world’s leading expert on learning environments; she has completely overhauled the system’s administrative framework to support rapid sector advancement; and she is about to introduce a national curriculum solution tailored specifically to the Cayman Islands, which will provide for students of all ages and competencies, as well as the economic demands of the jurisdiction.

In a variety of important public service roles, Mrs. Martins has continually succeeded to inspire and motivate the community, proving her prowess in the critical capabilities of fund-raising, promotion, communications campaign planning, and the effective utilization of modern technology and resources in maximizing productivity of government units.

Mrs. Martins is a well-known and respected figure within her local community, and a committed advocate of family values and healthy living. Her exemplary status has earned her coveted chairs and seats on the boards of numerous community groups and institutions. She is the proud mother of three children and lives with her family in Grand Cayman.
